HALIFAX - Several New Brunswick individuals including two from Metro Moncton are in the running for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards this year.

Ernst & Young announced the Atlantic provinces finalists this week with the Atlantic division winners to be announced at a banquet Oct. 1 and the overall winners at a banquet Nov. 24.

"By embracing the entrepreneurial spirit, this year's finalists are growing businesses, creating jobs and building communities despite daunting economic challenges," says Joyce Hoeven, partner and Atlantic director of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards. "Entrepreneurs who seize the opportunities that arise in adversity can ignite a spark, and propel our economy forward."

Innovation stimulates economic growth, she said, and that means there is no time like a downturn to take advantage of entrepreneurial thinking.

A recent Ernst & Young survey indicates 93 per cent of respondents said they are expanding their customer base and entering new markets despite the economic downturn.

The categories include business to business, business to consumers, manufacturing, financial and professional services, entrepreneur and social entrepreneur.
