New homestyle fries honoured as product of the year
One of the newest additions to Cavendish Farms' line of french fries is an award-winning one.
'From the Farm' homestyle low-fat potato wedges and strips has been awarded the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix New Product Award for the fruits, vegetables, and produce category.
"We're very excited," said Jeff Rose, vice-president of marketing for Cavendish Farms. "There was a lot of effort put into the product and it solidifies Cavendish Farms as an innovative company."
Held in Quebec City this year, the annual Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards gala recognizes innovative products that appeal to customers and are of good value.
'From the Farm' wedges and strips are made from premium potatoes and are prepared with their skins to maintain the integrity of the nutrients and give them an old-fashioned, flavour. Seasoned with natural sea salt, the fries are trans-fat free and available in strip and wedge cut.
"It's a nutritious product and it's a product that moms can feel good about putting on the table," Rose said.
Entries are judged by 32 consumers, journalists, food editors, advertising executives, packaging designers and Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors members from across Canada. This year 203 products were reviewed based on five criteria: uniqueness and innovation, characteristics, presentation and packaging, consumer value and consumer acceptance.
Atlantic-Canadian owned, Cavendish Farms has two processing plants in Prince Edward Island and one in Jamestown, North Dakota. The company's head office is located in Dieppe.
