Le fromage de chèvre de la fromagerie Au fond des bois se fait connaître du sud au nord

Il faut se rendre à East Branch, situé à une douzaine de kilomètres à l’ouest de Rexton, dans le comté de Kent, pour aller voir les chèvres qui sont à la base de la fromagerie Au fond des bois. D’origine belge, trois membres de la famille Henderson exploitent une petite ferme avec environ 75 chèvres laitières de cinq races différentes. On peut maintenant se procurer ces délicieux fromages le vendredi soir et le samedi matin au marché de Dieppe, le samedi aux marchés de Bouctouche et d’Edmundston et le dimanche à Shediac. Une variété de fromage est maintenant disponible sous différents noms comme Acadou, Acadiac, la ficelle, le p’tit bayou, Tomme blanche, l’Ermite des bois, le Pèlerin et le Barbizon.

Cette famille belge est déménagée dans le comté de Kent en juin 2005 après avoir passé cinq ans en France. Patrick et Marina, aujourd’hui âgés de 48 ans, ont quitté Waterloo (près de Bruxelles) pour changer leur style de vie : « Il me fallait 90 minutes pour me rendre au travail qui était à 20 km de chez nous. C’était la folie, parechoc à parechoc », de préciser Marina.

« Nos fromages sont aussi utilisés par le restaurant L’Idylle à Dieppe, Le Calactus à Moncton et l’Hôtel Paulin à Caraquet, de dire Patrick.

Ils sont aussi disponibles à la Ferme Michaud, M. Tomate, à la boulangerie biologique Le grain de folie à Caraquet. » Les produits Au fond des bois seront disponibles prochainement dans les magasins de Coop Atlantique.

Les deux enfants de la famille Henderson sont aussi au Canada.

On peut faire des visites commentées de la ferme et de la fromagerie surtout le dimanche après-midi en faisant des réservations au 523-9589. Les enfants aiment beaucoup les chèvres et ont parfois l’occasion de les nourrir au biberon.

Riverview has how many street lights?

Downtown Riverview Business Association for Riverview This Week. What a difference 22 years makes! A 22-year-old local newspaper carried the proud headline: “Riverview - N.B.’s #1 town.”

Riverview was incorporated in 1973, formed by the amalgamation of the villages of Bridgedale, Gunningsville and Riverview Heights.

According to the old paper, the newly incorporated Town was originally named Coverdale after the name of the original parish but within weeks the name was changed to Riverview.

In 1986, Riverview, the fourth largest municipality and largest town in New Brunswick, boasted a population of 15,638 and the highest disposable income in Atlantic Canada.

With 1,000 street lights, 3,913 single and double family homes, 548 apartment units, 150 mobile homes, 15 churches, 425 fire hydrants and an estimated 6,200 cars, the Town of Riverview was widely touted by Mayor Dave Richardson and fellow councillors as “a great place to live”.

Riverview’s growing business community was home to 150 companies of a commercial or industrial nature, two shopping malls, two strip malls, medical, dental and eye care centers, a bowling alley and a movie theatre.

Since 1986, Riverview’s population has grown to 17,832 and is now home to 6,895 private dwellings.

Records indicate that Riverview residents average $7,700 more disposable income than the CMA (Census Metropolitan Area) and 22% more discretionary income than the CMA average.

Driving around the community today, one can count more than 230 businesses conveniently located to serve Riverview residents.

Town priorities for the near future also include a new trunk sewer which will allow the development of the south-eastern portion of Riverview as well as plans for the new Bridgedale Boulevard.

In addition to developing the Town’s infrastructure to support future opportunities and growth, Riverview residents can look forward to a greatly improved Town Hall and Public Library, completion of the much anticipated Fundy Gateway Tourism Project, more retail and commercial development, and for the young at heart, a new toboggan hill which will hopefully be ready for the 2008/9 sliding season.

(Oh, and by the way! Riverview is now home to 1853 street lights for those who are counting.)

Moncton’s budget increases

The Over the past five years, the City of Moncton’s operating budget has grown by more than $30 million, from $77.8 million in 2004 to $107.8 million in 2008, an increase of about 40 per cent.

The biggest chunks of the budget are devoted to protective services, which includes fire, police, building inspection and emergency planning and gobbles up nearly 31 per cent of the overall budget, and labour costs, which account for more than one-third of the budget.

Wages have increased, on average, three to four per cent a year, but staffing has also increased. In 2004, the city employed about 510 full-time permanent employees. Since then at least 66 new positions have been created, a 13 per cent increase in staffing levels.

Bus company to offer airport shuttle service

Codiac Transit is getting ready to put the wheels of an airport shuttle bus in motion which would deliver travellers from the Greater Moncton International Airport to several hotels in Metro.

John Allain, general manager of Codiac Transit, says the plan is to have the airport shuttle on the road by late this year or early 2009.

Allain says the airport shuttle would be funded and designed by Codiac Transit initially, but would ultimately be passed over to a private company for any further operation.

Un premier casino à Moncton

Les jeux sont faits, Sonco et le gouvernement provincial ont annoncé la position exacte du premier casino du Nouveau-Brunswick.

Le projet évalué à 90 millions de dollars ouvrira ses portes au printemps 2010 tout près de la sortie 450 de la Transcanadienne sur le chemin Mountain à Moncton.

L’ensemble du projet est financé par le secteur privé, Sonco, et Fredericton n’y injecte aucun fond. Le PDG de Sonco, Michael Novac, se dit très heureux.

RIVERVIEW Riverview council opposes river restoration

A decision by the New Brunswick government to spend $20 million on restoring the Petitcodiac River and opening the causeway gates by 2010 is another example of the province ignoring the wishes of Riverview residents, Coun. Sherry Wilson said in a recent council meeting.

Wilson’s motion to send a letter to the province expressing the town’s disapproval of the restoration plans was passed by council at its regular meeting last night. She said provincial officials don’t understand the nature of the river and “it’s never going to come back” no matter how much money they spend.

Riverview to update ball field

Riverview Town council agreed to spend $50,000 on improvements to Harold Page Field and explore the idea of adding lights to the facility in order to permit the Moncton Mets of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League to play their home games their next season.

The Mets currently play at Kiwanis Park, but it is expected to be closed for repairs next summer. Riverview’s director of parks and recreation, Bob Clive, said $50,000 will be spent on a new outfield fence, bleachers and dugouts and work on the infield at Page Field.

DIEPPE Construction :année record à dieppe

La Ville de Dieppe se dirige vers une autre année record dans la construction cette année malgré un mois de juin moins performant dans la valeur des permis octroyés.

Quatre-vingt-un permis de construction ont été livrés dans le secteur résidentiel pour la création de 39 nouvelles unités d’une valeur totale d’un peu plus de 4,6 millions de dollars. Sept permis ont été octroyés dans le secteur commercial pour une valeur de 463 744 $.

Ouverture du Marché de Dieppe le vendredi

La première soirée d’ouverture le vendredi du Marché de Dieppe, le vendredi 11 juillet dernier, s’est avéré un succès! Plus de 1500 personnes, dont plusieurs nouveaux venus, se sont présentées au marché afin de faire leurs courses.

Le Marché de Dieppe qui est toujours ouvert le samedi de 7 h à 13 h 30 est maintenant aussi ouvert le vendredi de 16 h à 20 h, toute l’année.
