Company president Gordie Lavoie confirmed the company will provide general electric services for various trades and equipment for Atomic Energy of Canada Limited’s $1.4 billion refurbishment project at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.

Under the terms of the contract — the company’s third multi-million- dollar contract with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited — Sunny Corner Enterprises will supply labour, material equipment, machinery operators, supervision, tooling, procedures and other related products and services required for the project.

The contract will result in up to 75 jobs for tradespeople, engineers and supervisors over the course of 12 months “This is great news for our company,” said Lavoie. “The opportunity that the nuclear industry presents is exciting for us and for New Brunswick. This refurbishment project is a global first and we will create expertise that can be exported around the world. We are pleased that as a New Brunswick company we can participate in such a substantial way in this historic project.”

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited vice-president of retubing, David Scott said, “Sunny Corner is a tremendous New Brunswick success story. Contracts like this one are helping to create globalscale nuclear expertise in N.B.”

Mayor John McKay said it is no accident Sunny Corner Enterprises has been awarded this contract.

McKay said the success of the company is based on its technological acumen, which it continues to capitalize on.

“They are well known for being very successful for contracting themselves out to a world-wide market,” said McKay, adding Sunny Corner is an example of a Miramichi-based company providing technology-based services and maintaining strong community-based ties.

Adds MLA Bill Fraser, “Sunny Corner is a New Brunswick and a Miramichi success story. The company is a perfect example of the entrepreneurial spirit we need for a self-sufficient N.B.”

Sunny Corner Enterprises employs over 500 people and serves a wide range of industries to assist in meeting diverse project needs.
