City seeks further funding for waterfront development
The City of Bathurst is looking at possible funding options for the downtown waterfront development project in Bathurst.
Deputy mayor Scott Ferguson believes the waterfront project is a perfect fit for a portion of the $70 million which is being allocated by the provincial government for Northern New Brunswick this year.
The waterfront project currently features a cluster of tourism-related buildings with a boardwalk to be constructed this spring. However, the project’s design also includes a gazebo, outdoor skating rink and observation tower, for which further funding is needed.
The original $1.2 million budget for the project did not extend far enough, due to rising construction costs.
