Pipogoes Augustine, 45, appeared in provincial court by phone on Friday on a charge of robbing the Omista credit union on Mountain Road on Aug. 31. Defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux entered a not guilty plea and Augustine returns to court April 30 to set a trial date.

Augustine has waived his bail and will remain in jail until his trial.

Police had earlier reported a man entered a financial institution on Mountain Road in Moncton on Aug. 31, demanded money from the teller and claimed he had a weapon. The man then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

RCMP said a warrant was issued Sept. 8 for Augustine’s arrest and a description and photo of the suspect were released to the public with the warning that people should not approach him but should call 911 if they see him.

Augustine was eventually arrested and was brought to court on March 13 to face the charge.
