McCain Foods Canada recognized for leadership

FLORENCEVILLE - Natural Resources Canada and the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation gave McCain Foods Canada an award for environmental leadership and energy conservation. The company's Carberry, Man., potato processing plant was recognized for its energy recovery system, which captures heat from the fryer and uses it to preheat water for the manufacturing process, reducing natural gas use.

Plazacorp Retail Properties announces quarterly results

FREDERICTON - Plazacorp Retail Properties Ltd. (TSX.V:PLZ) announced results for the period ending Sept. 30, emphasizing a 9.9-per-cent increase in funds from operations for the third quarter and a 97.6-per-cent occupancy level. Funds were $3.7 million for the third quarter, up from the $3.3 million for the same period in 2008. "We are pleased with the positive results for the third quarter and the year-to-date," said president and CEO Michael Zakuta.

Brookfield Renewable Power to issue $300M in new notes

TORONTO - Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. has signed a deal to sell $300 million in 6.132 per cent notes due Nov. 30, 2016. The proceeds will be used to repay the remaining $280 million of the company's 4.65 per cent notes due Dec. 16. Brookfield Renewable Power is wholly-owned by Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (TSX:BAM.A) and holds a portfolio of more than 165 power generating facilities with about 4,100 megawatts of capacity.
