Single housing starts up

New Brunswick urban centres recorded 150 housing starts in April, down from 182 in April 2007, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reported Thursday. Total starts for the year to the end of April increased by 14.7 per cent to 483, compared to 421 in the same period last year, according to CMHC's preliminary April data for New Brunswick census areas of 10,000 and more people. Starts of one-family units increased to 83 in April, compared to 73 in the same month last year. Multiple family starts dropped to 67 from 109. For the year to the end of April, single starts numbered 253, up 33.2 per cent from 190 in the same month last year. Multiple starts dropped by one unit to 230 to the end of April.
