Corey Pet Foods enhances SPCA partnership
Published Monday September 29th, 2008

Corey Pet Foods has been providing the Fredericton SPCA with dog food for several years, and now it's doing the same for the shelter's clients.
The Fredericton pet food company, responsible for the ProSeries line of dog food, started supplying starter packs in August to everyone adopting dogs from the shelter. The packs include a guide on how to take care of dogs, a coupon for a free bag of ProSeries dog food and several ProSeries dog food samples.
"The packs are great because they are just something else we can give to people when they adopt from us, and they are a nice way to send people home with some information and some value," said Stephanie Walsh, executive director of the Fredericton SPCA.
"I don't know if they are going to get more people to adopt from us, but they do provide an opportunity to promote the food the dogs were fed while they were here, while giving some information about the SPCA."
In addition to the starter packs, Corey Pet Foods regularly donates dog food to the SPCA - about $70,000 worth over the past several years.
Conference to discuss IT security
More than 200 people are expected to attend a one-day conference on information-technology security at the Delta Fredericton Hotel on Tuesday.
The conference, put on by the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), is in its sixth year and is open to people in all fields.
"There really isn't any other conference in the region that focuses on IT security, and that's why we put this on every year," said Peter Morin, president of HTCIA Atlantic. "The conference is open to pretty much everybody and involves people who are directly focused on IT security in their organization or people who have the mandate to start something.
"So it's really pretty much all walks of life and it allows us to bring in some pretty good speakers and have some great people present, so it becomes a really good forum for learning."
Topics to be discussed include everything from application security to legal and privacy matters. Dr. Ali Ghorbani, dean of the faculty of computer science at the University of New Brunswick, will deliver the keynote address on UNB's efforts to enhance information privacy and security.
