Published Monday December 29th, 2008

CALGARY - Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU) says it has completed repair work to part of its oilsands operations more than a month after a minor fire cut output at the Northern Alberta business.
Suncor said Monday the Nov. 26 fire began during the start-up of a vacuum unit at one of the company's two oilsands upgraders north of Fort McMurray after completion of planned maintenance.
There were no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished.
During the maintenance period, Suncor's oilsands operations ran at reduced rates.
Shortly after the fire, Suncor said it expected total oilsands production would average 235,000 barrels per day in December. Up to the end of November, Suncor oilsands production averaged about 227,000 barrels a day.
In Monday's release, the Calgary company did not estimate how much production was actually cut this month but said statistics for December and full year 2008 output will be released in early January.
In trading on the TSX on Monday, Suncor shares rose 88 cents to close at $22.88, a gain of four per cent in trading of more than 3.3 million shares.
