TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's official news agency says authorities have banned an Iranian actress on her way to Hollywood from leaving the country.

IRNA's report on Wednesday quotes an unnamed official as saying the actress "was banned from travelling " Tuesday.

Golshifteh Farahani was at Tehran's airport on her way to the U.S. to study a new acting offer in Hollywood. The official didn't give a reason for the ban.

Farahani was the first Iranian-based actress since the 1979 Islamic Revolution to appear in a Hollywood film when she landed a role in Ridley Scott's "Body of Lies."

The movie is set to be released this fall and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

Iranian artists usually need accreditation from Iran's Culture Ministry before they can work with foreign agencies.
