Moncton salutes public works employees

The City of Moncton will tip its hard hat to its Public Works employees during 2008 National Public Works Week May 18 to 24. This year's theme -- Public Works: The Future is Now -- demonstrates well the impact of Public Works on our overall quality of life today and for years to come.
Public Works crews are responsible for snow clearing and salting streets; collecting garbage; maintaining municipal parks, grounds, facilities and buildings; maintaining and repairing the City's fleet of vehicles; managing the municipal water and sewer infrastructure; managing operations and caring for the animals at the Magnetic Hill Zoo; and much more.
The week will be launched Tuesday at noon at city hall with a display of heavy equipment. An appreciation breakfast will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 a.m. at the operations centre next to the Moncton Coliseum. School tours with heavy equipment demonstrations will be staged Wednesday through Friday.
