We’ve got a new name: CompuCollege is changing its name to Eastern College. Fredericton Campus Manager Norma Lyons positions a sign inside the main entrance informing people of the name change. The college is hoping to have the new signs for its building by the end of the week.

The rebranding to as Eastern College is to celebrate and recognize the extended course offerings that the college now offers.

"We've outgrown the name we've had for more than 20 years, so we're changing to better reflect the scope of programs we have now," said Patricia Comeau, marketing manager. "We've come a long way, and we offer a wide range of programs now, and the whole scope is so far removed from just the IT computer training that we were previously known for."

Eastern College is a nationally recognized educational institution in Atlantic Canada with campuses in Halifax, Dartmouth, Charlottetown, St. John's, Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John.

It offers programs ranging from public relations and massage therapy to acupuncture, tourism and computer business applications.

Debra Jones, the college's vice-president of operations, said the decision to change the college's name wasn't easy.

"CompuCollege is well known by people looking for career training, but, quite frankly, we offer a lot more than programs in computers," Jones said.

"We've come a long way . . . We've been here for 20 years and the only thing that's changed is our name, not our commitment."

A major campaign to launch the new name began Monday. It will involve radio and newspaper advertising as well as changes to the college's website and signage.
