Peter Cianchette has returned from his post as U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica and is again working for Cianbro as vice-president of business development, the Pittsfield, Maine-based company said Wednesday. Cianchette worked in his youth for the company his father, Ival (Bud) Cianchette and his uncles, Ken, Carl and Chuck, founded in 1949. Cianchette left Pittsfield to be a South Portland businessman and was elected in 1996 to the Maine legislature, where he served two terms. He ran as the Republican nominee for Maine governor in 2002 but lost to John Baldacci. Cianchette worked on the Bush-Cheney campaign in Maine in 2004, and in 2008 was appointed as U.S. ambassador to Coasta Rica. Bud Cianchette is now chairman emeritus of the Cianbro Cos. board of directors.
