
Progress Club stages bachelor auction

For the first time ever, eligible bachelors from Moncton will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in support of local charities. The Canadian Progress Club -- Greater Moncton Women's Chapter is organizing the event, which will be held on Thursday, May 14 at the Delta Beauséjour Hotel, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Event attendees will have a chance to bid on dream date packages with eligible bachelors from Metro Moncton. Date packages and silent auction items have been customized to ensure there is something for everyone. There are many auction items that will appeal to the not-so-single lady as well, including a wine tasting package, a golf package and others.
Proceeds from this fundraiser are in support of Crossroads for Women, and other charitable organizations supported by the Canadian Progress Club. The Canadian Progress Club is a national organization made up of professional-minded individuals with the goal of helping in their communities.
Tickets for this event are available at Mexicali Rosa's, the Head Shoppe (Superstore Mall -- Dieppe) and members of the Moncton Women's Progress. Tickets are $40 each.
Chaleur Credit Union reaches $100M in assets
The Chaleur Credit Union has attained a milestone of $100 million in assets in 2008, general manager Yvon Cormier said during the recent annual meeting in Bathurst.
Also, the Chaleur Credit Union did well in 2008 with an annual surplus earning before taxes, member dividends and fair value in the amount of $770,864, a slight decrease from the $797,000 record results.
"The results are respectable considering the economic situation that prevailed for the greater part of 2008," said board president Clarence Landry. Total loans surpassed $75 million and total deposits surpassed $92 million.
The Chaleur Credit union was established in 1939 and is owned by 7,800 members in the Bathurst region.
CME annual conference in Fredericton
The New Brunswick division of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) is holding its 57th annual general meeting and Manufacturers' Days events on May 21 and 22 at the Delta Fredericton.
The event features an overview of the state of manufacturing in Ontario by CME vice president Ian Howcroft, insights into an innovative manufacturing sector by CME national president Jayson Myers and a Let's Talk Exports luncheon address by EDC vice president Peter Hall. As well, the 43rd annual New Brunswick Export Achievement Awards will be presented at an evening gala.
The conference theme is "Turning Innovation into a Competitive Advantage."
Today, manufacturing is no longer just about producing things. It's about providing solutions to customers through tangible products, or what might be called "intellefacturing."
