Business and industry representatives from Metro Moncton will be making up the province's largest-ever delegation of companies and organizations to be at the National Job Fair, March 31 and April 1, in Toronto.

"Essentially it's a people recruitment mission," said Kevin Sillikier, the City of Moncton's Business Development Officer, who is one of the 14 provincial delegates on the mission. "It's all about growing our community right now."

Sillikier said the population of Metro Moncton is on the move and that job fairs like this make a difference.

"We're outpacing the national average and it's important for us to maintain that momentum," he said.

Moncton-based companies that will be part of the provincial delegation include: The Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Career Beacon, Malley Industries, the Moncton Flight College and Spielo.

"They all have the jobs to offer, but then the question often comes down to 'Well, what does the community have to offer me, what can I do in your city,'" said Sillikier. "That's our role."

Other New Brunswick companies making the trip include, Enterprise Fredericton, Lansbridge University, Meritus University, NB Power, Shannex (New Brunswick), Swifthire, Young Professionals of New Brunswick (21inc), Young Professionals of New Brunswick (Fusion) and the Department of Health (Regions A and B).

"There are many employers now in New Brunswick who need workers," said Greg Byrne, minister of New Brunswick's Population Growth Secretariat, in a statement. "With the jobs available in our province now, and with more new jobs on the horizon, New Brunswick is truly the place to be for people who want to start or continue a dynamic career."

All the delegates will be in the self-styled New Brunswick Recruitment Zone, which will provide visitors with information about local training and continuing education programs, as well as information about small business management within the province.

The Population Growth Secretariat has undertaken four previous recruitment missions to large Canadian centres, targeting workers primarily in the information and technology sectors.
