Wal-Marts extend hours for holiday shoppers
Published Friday November 28th, 2008

Consumers will hear the sounds of cash registers even more frequently starting Dec. 1 when the city's two Wal-Mart department stores open their doors around the clock.
Both of Fredericton's Wal-Mart locations will be among 192 Canadian franchise outlets to extend their hours during the busy Christmas season.
Their hours are expected to return to normal after the stores close Christmas Eve.
Peter Thompson, assistant manager of the Two Nations Crossing outlet, said the northside Wal-Mart will implement the holiday hours at midnight Dec. 1.
He said customers are welcome to browse the aisles until Saturday evenings at 11 p.m.
The store will close then, open for its regular Sunday hours - 12-5 p.m. - and then re-open at 12 a.m. Monday morning.
The provincial Days of Rest Act prohibits the department stores from being open past the regular Sunday shopping hours.
Thompson said the move is designed to make life easier for customers during the hectic holiday season.
"(It allows us) to be more convenient for our shoppers," he said.
"There are a lot of people around here who do shift work and so we're trying to make it as easy a shopping experience for our customers as possible."
The hours at the Regent Mall Wal-Mart will differ slightly.
It will be open 24 hours per day from Monday through Saturday evening, when it closes at 11 p.m.
It will be open between 12-5 p.m. on Sundays, but won't re-open until Monday morning at 8 a.m.
Lynn McAdam, manager of the Regent Mall location, said many shoppers take advantage of the late-night hours in order to avoid the Christmas rush.
