U.S. dollar lower in European morning trading

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was down against other major currencies in European trading Thursday morning.

The euro traded at $1.3170, up from $1.2988 late Wednesday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

Tokyo - 92.07 Japanese yen, down from 92.63

Zurich - 1.1906 Swiss francs, down from 1.1978

London - 1.2515 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2574

The British pound was quoted at $1.4994, up from $1.4789.

In Toronto, the Canadian dollar opened at 80.10 cents US, up 0.71 of a cent from Wednesday. The U.S. dollar stood at C$1.2485 cents Cdn, down 1.11 cents.

The New York Mercantile Exchange gold futures closed on Wednesday at US$808.81, up $34.60.
